According to a report from Bild (as captured by @iMiaSanMia_GER), Bayern Munich captain Manuel Neuer eschewed the team’s friendly vs. Red Bull Salzburg in favor of some individual work at Säbener Straße with the goal of being good to go for Saturday’s match against Borussia Mönchengladbach:
Manuel Neuer trained individually this afternoon and did a 50-minute session on Säbener Straße. Max Schmitt and Anthony Pavlesic were on the pitch with him. Neuer is currently training for his comeback in Gladbach on Saturday.
Although he has not fully participated in a single session with the team since the start of training on January 2nd, but has mostly completed special training on the adjacent pitch after warming up and passing exercises, Neuer is expected to be in Bayern’s goal on Saturday.
Bayern Munich board member for sport Max Eberl checked in on Neuer’s status, along with Jamal Musiala’s bout with an illness as well.
“Manu’s recovery is very, very positive. We didn’t want to take any risks. Jamal has a slight cold – nothing serious. So we’re very, very positive about [their availability] on Saturday,” Eberl told Bild’s Michel Schröer (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
Neuer likely made the smart move to help avoid any potential setbacks. Hopefully, the veteran will be 100% for Saturday.
