Graham Potter is apparently being lined up to replace Julen Lopetegui at West Ham United.
The January transfer window could end up being one of the very best we have experienced as West Ham fans.
With Julen Lopetegui believed to have been sacked by the Hammers board, it’s time for big change at the London Stadium.
The West Ham owners were thought to be ready to back Lopetegui, and give him some more time to turn things around.
It appears as though they’ve had a big change of heart today though, and now we can start to move forward as a club.
Potter coming in to replace Lopetegui would be an immediate upgrade for the Hammers.
Aside from having a new manager though, West Ham could be set to bring in a supremely talented trio of players as well.
Could we really be on the cusp of enjoying a successful January window for a change?
West Ham on cusp of dream January window
The Hammers need to strengthen our squad accordingly after some really poor recruitment from Lopetegui, and Tim Steidten of course.
And three apparent deals in the pipeline for West Ham seem to be much more like it.
West Ham are believed to be eyeing loan deals for Carney Chukwuemeka and Evan Ferguson.
The Chelsea midfielder would provide us with the energy and dynamism that we desperately lack in the middle of the park.
Meanwhile, Ferguson is a perfect fit for our front-line. We have a lot of pace and skill in the wide areas with the likes of Jarrod Bowen, Mohammed Kudus and Crysencio Summerville.
However, we desperately lack a proper target man – Niclas Fullkrug isn’t good enough for the Premier League in my opinion.
The young Brighton striker would take us to another level, especially if he manages to rediscover his form from the 2022/23 season.
And finally, Fikayo Tomori is said to be on the Hammers’ transfer radar, with reports linking him with a £21 million move to the London Stadium.
Graham Potter to oversee successful West Ham era
If West Ham appoint Graham Potter, sign Tomori on a permanent deal and bring in Ferguson and Chukwuemeka on loan deals, that would be the dream January transfer window wouldn’t it?
The Hammers would be strengthening in the four positions we are currently really deficient in – manager, centre-back, central midfield and centre-forward.
Great things lie ahead for the Hammers, I’m convinced of it.
Julen Lopetegui was the wrong appointment in the summer, and he has held us back this season with his ineptitude.
A really bright future awaits us though, and the arrivals of Potter, Tomori, Chukwuemeka and Ferguson in January would be the start of hugely exciting things to come.
I expect Graham Potter to focus his recruitment on players under the age of 23 going forward, if he does indeed get the West Ham job.
And that’s something we can all get behind.
