Graham Potter seems to be all set to become the new West Ham United manager.
Julen Lopetegui appears to be a dead man walking, with the West Ham board closing in on a move to appoint Graham Potter.
The Hammers formally offered the 49-year-old a contract on Monday night.
And it has been claimed that Potter will return to the West Ham owners today with his final decision.
Hopefully Potter will bring some real excitement back to the London Stadium.
Positive change obviously won’t happen overnight, but I believe he’s the perfect man to take us to another level in the long-term.
In order to make some immediate progress, the former Chelsea boss will need to make a few signings in the January window.
Will he be adequately backed though?
What West Ham board told Potter about January window budget
The Hammers have a really unbalanced squad right now.
At the time, the summer business seemed to be excellent, but the reality is that we missed out on strengthening certain positions that were crying out for improvement.
West Ham are still really weak in the centre-forward and central midfield departments, and Potter apparently wants to bring Evan Ferguson and Carney Chukwuemeka to the club this month.
But will he be able to do that?
The good news is that The Times have claimed that the Hammers board have promised Potter money to spend on new signings in January:
“Potter has been promised money to spend on new signings this month, with the club looking to bring in an energetic midfielder and a forward.“
That’s a huge boost for the Hammers fans.
As good as Graham Potter is, he’s not a miracle worker, and he’ll need to add some youthful energy and pace to the current West Ham group, if he’s to oversee a successful second half of the season.
These are exciting times for West Ham, and I’m convinced that Potter will oversee drastic improvement at the club, if he does indeed accept the job.
The next few weeks will be incredibly busy for the Hammers and indeed, Potter.
