West Ham United are apparently trying to sign a proven striker in the January transfer window.
We all know how desperately West Ham need to sign a new centre-forward in the January window, with Michail Antonio and Jarrod Bowen both sidelined with long-term injuries.
All of the talk at West Ham right now is revolving around Graham Potter coming into the London Stadium to replace Julen Lopetegui.
The Hammers have been absolutely woeful this season, so it’s no surprise that Lopetegui is on the verge of losing his job.
One of the key factors behind our struggles this season was the poor recruitment in the summer.
Lopetegui failed to bring a top-class striker to the club – I’m sorry but Niclas Fullkrug just isn’t the man we need.
The good news is that the West Ham hierarchy are seemingly attempting to atone for that error now.
West Ham make January window approach to sign striker
This month will be pivotal to the Hammers’ hopes of achieving a successful 2024/25 campaign.
The addition of a new striker will be crucial, and it seems as though we’re well on our way to doing exactly that.
That’s because Mais Futebol are reporting that West Ham have made a formal approach to Benfica to sign Arthur Cabral on a loan deal until the end of the season.
However, Benfica would prefer to sell him permanently for a minimum fee of £12.5 million.
Cabral, 26, is a proven centre-forward who has scored an impressive 130 goals in 313 career games (Transfermarkt).
West Ham actually tried to sign Cabral three years ago before he eventually joined Fiorentina from FC Basel.
Hammers News spoke exclusively to 4-4-2.CH writer and Swiss football expert Andre Oechsner about Cabral, and we were told he’d be perfectly suited to playing Premier League football.
I believe that the Brazilian would be a very smart loan signing for us this month.
He knows where the back of the net is and would provide us with a completely different option through the middle.
Arthur Cabral is a hard working forward who possesses terrific movement, and he’s very cool and composed in front of goal.
Hopefully West Ham will be able to strike a loan deal to sign the 26-year-old in the January transfer window.
However, if Benfica insist the Hammers pay a £12.5 million fee to sign Cabral permanently, I actually think it might well be worth the risk bringing him to the London Stadium.
