Antonin Kinsky enjoyed a fantastic Tottenham debut vs Liverpool in the Carabao Cup
Tottenham Hotspur have the advantage in their Carabao Cup semi-final after beating Liverpool 1-0 in their first leg at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Ange Postecoglou’s side thought they’d opened the scoring in the 77th minute, but Dominic Solanke’s goal was chalked off due to offside following a lengthy VAR check. The hosts didn’t let this affect them, though, as Spurs broke the deadlock in the 81st minute.
Pedro Porro played in Dominic Solanke to run into the Liverpool box and he outmuscled Ibrahima Konate before setting up Lucas Bergvall to fire home. Ange Postecoglou reaped rich rewards for setting up his team in a more pragmatic manner than he’s done most of the time during his reign at N17, and goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky came in for his Tottenham debut after signing from Slavia Prague last week.
Just three days after joining the club, Antonin Kinsky did enough on the training pitches to convince Postecoglou and his coaching staff to throw him at the deep end against the Reds. Truth be told, the 21-year-old looked as though he had been in this Tottenham team for years.
It was a very assured display from the Czech Republic glovesman. He made a couple of routine saves, one in the first half from a Cody Gakpo shot from outside the box. The youngster made a brilliant reaction save off substitute Darwin Nunez’s header late in the game to help his side keep a clean sheet and win the first leg of the Carabao Cup last four.
Solanke, who created the goal for Bergvall, was effusive in his praise for debutant Kinsky against Liverpool. The Tottenham striker gave the shot-stopper a “big credit” to come in and have such an impact in a short space of time.
“He [Kinsky] was phenomenal. Honestly. He came three days ago and one or two training sessions with us,” Solanke told Sky Sports (h/t BBC Sport)
“To look that comfortable out there and confident. I can’t give him enough credit. He looked like a natural out there, like he had been training with us for years, especially at his age as well.
“To come in and have the impact that he did so soon it’s a big credit to him.
“To have him at the club now is great for us, we have a lot of big games coming up and a long way to go in the season. So hopefully we can achieve something special.”
-> Numbers speak volumes as Tottenham star impresses vs Liverpool
Kinsky enjoyed a memorable debut in the famous white in front of the Tottenham Hotspur faithful. Only 21 years old, the Czech Republic starlet showed a calm demeanour, strong personality and leadership skills to rally the troops from the back. He commanded his box well and distributed the ball superbly against a high-pressing Liverpool side.
