Bayern Munich may have been bit by the injury bug at the goalkeeper position again — but don’t expect any moves in the January transfer window.
New top deputy Daniel Peretz’s untimely injury is coinciding with Manuel Neuer’s presumed return. The No. 1 missed out on participation in the warm-up friendly against RB Salzburg on Monday in order to ensure his availability in the Bundesliga restart on Saturday at Borussia Mönchengladbach — and that effort appears to have been successful.
And that appears to be just enough to allow Bayern to juggle its healthy goalkeepers without acquiring any more.
From Sport Bild, via @iMiaSanMia:
Despite Daniel Peretz’s kidney injury and the recurrent problems around Manuel Neuer and Sven Ulreich, Bayern are currently planning to go into the second half of the season with the same set of goalkeepers and hoping there will be no new injuries. There are no attempts to bring forward the transfer of Jonas Urbig, for example. Neuer has recovered from his rib injury and should be back against Gladbach. Sven Ulreich has also trained with the team, but has not travelled to any away games in recent weeks. If Ulreich doesn’t travel to Mönchengladbach as well, Max Schmitt would sit on the bench as Neuer backup [@BILD]
Winter reinforcements are hard to find in a pinch, and may not come cheap, either — remember Yann Sommer from two seasons ago? Fortunately for Bayern, nothing seems too serious…for now.
