According to a report from Sky Sport journalist Florian Plettenberg, Bayern Munich has identified its pick to potentially succeed Manuel Neuer — FC Köln goalkeeper Jonas Urbig:
Jonas #Urbig is currently Bayern’s top candidate for next summer to become the backup goalkeeper behind Manuel #Neuer, who is set to extend his contract until 2026 in the coming days.
The basic requirement for the transfer of Urbig is that Daniel #Peretz will be loaned out in the summer to gain regular playing time at a high level. A loan for Peretz is under consideration.
There is no agreement or ongoing negotiations regarding Urbig yet, but the 21 y/o top talent from 1. FC Köln is currently at the top of the list. #effzeh
It seems that Bayern Munich is seeking to bring in Urbig, have him get some spot time behind Neuer in 2025/26, and use that framework to decide whether he will be ready to step in for Neuer in 2026/27.
Needless to say, the focus could be shifting toward Urbig and away from Daniel Peretz (expected to be sent on loan during the summer) and Alexander Nübel (expected to stay at VfB Stuttgart for next season).
Let the games begin…
