Bayern Munich’s Joshua Kimmich revealed the key reasons that his contract extension will be centered around. Mincing no words, the ever ambitious midfielder made clear that sporting success is very important for his future to continue in Munich. Bayern’s plans to retain the likes of other top quality players will also be factor said the 29 year-old.
In a post match interview after the Borussia Monchengladbach game (captured by @iMiaSanMia) Joshua Kimmich spoke this about his future.
“I spoke to the club. I won’t put too much pressure on myself. But of course there has to be a decision in the coming months. Of course there are many good reasons to extend. It’s also about sporting success in the next 3-4 years. I have to think then make the right decision.”
Upon being questioned whether the extensions of players like Jamal Musiala and Alphonso Davies would play a role “Of course it’s also about how the team will look like in the coming years to be successful. So that’s also a factor. (The probability of staying) is much higher than last summer, because I see how we play football. That also has a lot to do with the coach. All of Germany can see that we are playing football in a different way. Things are looking much better. It’s fun in training and on the pitch.”
Kimmich’s natural leadership qualities were recognized very early on and he has been groomed to eventually don the armband for the Bavarians. Bayern doing decently so far under Vincent Kompany, the opportunity to play alongside world class players like Harry Kane, Jamal Musiala etc, a relatively free hand under a young manager should all be a draw for an ambitious player like Kimmich who would no doubt love to leave his legacy in the sport. The Bayern brass being able to make an offer that matches his sporting ambition should get the job done.
