Bayern Munich board member for sport Max Eberl might have felt a bit nostalgic when watching his new team square off against one of his old teams — Borussia Mönchengladbach.
Those feelings were probably replaced by anxiety at times as Bayern Munich failed to pull away from Die Fohlen in a 1-0 victory, but Eberl will happily take the three points and run.
“It was a very good, very mature performance. Gladbach didn’t have a single chance in the first half, we had two or three very promising ones. In the second half, Gladbach had the header from Tim Kleindienst. If we take the whole game, the balance of play, the dominance and all the statistics, then the win is fully deserved. No one can now catch us as halfway leaders, which is a great interim result, but we want to keep picking up points,” Eberl said of the victory over his old club (as captured by FCBayern.com).
Eberl is not wrong, but he does overlook some the inefficiency of his attacking group and how it has been a lingering issue. Bayern Munich fans will not have to wait long to see if improvements are made — a date with Hoffenheim awaits on Wednesday.
