Eric Dier started only his second game for Bayern Munich in this season’s Bundesliga. Having been kept out of the starting eleven in favour of Kim Min-jae and Dayot Upamecano, Dier waited patiently prioritizing the team needs. His character and team first attitude did not go unnoticed by the coach Vincent Kompany who made a special remark after the game against Borussia Monchengladbach.
Upon being questioned on Dier’s performance and general attitude when he wasn’t playing, coach Kompany answered: “When we play like we did today, although we missed many chances, it’s easy to talk about each individual player. Because everyone brought what we had hoped for. Eric is a player with a lot of experience who knows what to do in these moments. Players like Eric have character and always prioritize the team.”
The duo of Min-jae and Upamecano were played in nearly every game in the Hinrunde and playing Dier more often is a requirement to avoid injuries in the business end of the season. Further re-integrating Dier back into the team is unavoidable task for Kompany.
