Premier League Pass Clubs for PSR Compliance
The Premier League have passed all 20 Premier League clubs as being financially compliant for the 2023-24 season. All top-flight clubs had submitted their 2023/24 accounts before a December 31 deadline.
Under PSR regulations, Premier League clubs cannot post losses of more than £105m over a three-year period.
Villa’s Close PSR Shave
According to the Swiss Ramble’s estimates of Villa’s accounts, Villa’s PSR loss is around the £93m mark, leaving them £12m shy of the maximum limit. It’s a situation that still means that Monchi and the football department will need to box clever in this current January window and there will be pressure still to come in the summer transfer window.
Fox Trap
While all clubs were given a clean bill of PSR health, Leicester City aren’t out of the woods yet.
Leicester faced PSR charges related to the three-year period ending with the 2022-23 season, but these were overturned on appeal. An independent commission ruled that, since Leicester were relegated at the end of that season, they were no longer a Premier League club when they submitted their accounts on 30 June 2023. As a result, certain income fell outside the jurisdiction of the league’s rules.
The Premier League recently issued the following statement to suggest the matter certainly isn’t over yet:
“Issues as to the jurisdiction of the Premier League over Leicester City Football Club in relation to PSR compliance are currently the subject of confidential arbitration proceedings. Accordingly, neither the league nor the club will make any further comment at this stage about any aspect of the club’s compliance or otherwise with any of the PSR or related rules, save to say that no complaint has been brought against Leicester by the league for any breach of the PSRs for the period ending season 2023-24.”
