The path is clear for West Ham to sign a Chelsea star after developments overnight as Graham Potter drops a new transfer update.
West Ham are in the market for signings to help new boss Graham Potter in the January transfer window.
And it is perhaps no surprise his former club Chelsea is one place the Hammers are looking for players.
Like Chelsea themselves, West Ham are very much in the market for a new striker.
Especially after lost former Chelsea target Niclas Fullkrug for three months, Michail Antonio and Jarrod Bowen.
Potter was given a monumental Bowen boost this week with news he is on course for an early return ahead of West Ham’s meeting with Chelsea in a few weeks.
It’s not just the forward line Potter and the club want to strengthen, though.
West Ham also want a new midfielder too.
The Hammers have been linked with young Dutch midfield talent Ezechiel Banzuzi, Man City’s James McAtee and Chelsea’s Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall.
The Blues have a number of other players who have been reportedly interesting the Hammers including Ben Chilwell, Carney Chukwuemeka and Axel Disasi.
Chelsea star surely West Ham bound after twist
But the latter two seem destined for moves elsewhere.
However, one Chelsea star is surely West Ham bound after a twist overnight as Potter drops a new transfer update.
While Potter was masterminding a 3-2 win for his injury-ravaged Hammers over Fulham, Chelsea were playing Bournemouth.
Disasi, Dewsbury-Hall and Chukwuemeka were all left out of the Chelsea squad for their 2-2 draw with the Cherries.
Commenting on the omission, journalist Ben Jacobs claims it is because the trio could all be on the move in January.
With Dortmund close to signing Chukwuemeka and Disasi said to be in talks for an exit to a foreign club, where does that leave Dewsbury-Hall?
Walking right into West Ham’s clutches fans will hope.
The former Leicester midfielder fits the profile of midfielder the Hammers need and who fits Potter’s style.
His omission very much suggests a deal is in the offing.
And West Ham have been the club most heavily linked.
Hammers News reported on Monday a claim from an agent source close to the situation that West Ham are growing increasingly confident of signing Dewsbury-Hall on loan.
But crucially it would include an option to buy should the energetic box-to-box midfielder prove a success.
In the wake of the win over Fulham, Potter was asked about transfers by the press.
Potter drops new West Ham transfer update after win
And he gave Hammers fans hope the club is looking to do deals.
“If we can find the player that can help the team, help us improve, we will also do that,” Potter said.
“We’re always looking. It’s a complicated market. We have to make sure we find the right thing.”
Meanwhile one deal that is on the cards involves Maxwel Cornet.
The winger has endured a dismal loan spell at Southampton, barely featuring at all.
West Ham revealed Cornet cannot return as a Hammers player under contract this month.
But reports in France claim his loan with Southampton looks set to be cancelled so he can join Lens instead.
L’Equipe claim Lens have made contact with West Ham about a deal.
But it’s not clear whether they want a loan or permanent.
It would be in West Ham’s interests if a permanent deal can be arranged – or at least a loan with obligation given the need to raise funds.
