Manchester City could snap up Eintracht Frankfurt forward Omar Marmoush “within the next 48 hours”, according to Sky Germany reporter Patrick Berger.
The journalist claims that the Premier League champions last bid was worth €65m (£55m) but Frankfurt are hopeful that a deal will be agreed for a fee of €70m (£59m) plus add-ons.
Marmoush did play against Freiburg on Tuesday night. There were some questions about his participation due to ongoing transfer negotiations.
However, the Egyptian international played the full 90 minutes and continued his impressive form as Frankfurt secured a 4-1 victory.
Marmoush got on the scoresheet once again, as well as contributing 2 assists, taking his goal involvements for the season to an impressive 34 in all competitions.
No other club has tried to hijack the Marmoush deal
Several other Premier League teams, including Liverpool, Arsenal and Tottenham have been linked with the 25-year-old in recent weeks.
Following the news that Gabriel Jesus has suffered an ACL injury, the Gunners may have considered Marmoush as a potential replacement but it appears City are clear favourites to secure his signature.
City are expected to spend in excess of £120m on three signings
In addition to the £59m that is likely to be shelled out on Marmoush, the Cityzens are close to purchasing two other players.
Once a visa has been sorted out, a deal for Lens defender Abdukodir Khusanov (£34m) should be finalised, while an agreement is said to be in place to sign Vitor Reis from Palmeiras for £29.5m.
It will take City’s spending to around £122.5m, which is a significant outlay, especially considering that none of the players involved are household names. Based on Marmoush’s form, though, you would expect him to, at least, hit the ground running when he arrives at the Etihad.
