West Ham are considering a loan deal for Newcastle United striker Callum Wilson until the end of the season.
Before anyone shoots the messenger, I firmly believe signing the injury-prone forward would be a risky move, given his seemingly constant battles with fitness and injury.
Wilson’s agent Will Salthouse, was spotted at the London Stadium during West Ham’s gritty, bare bones victory over Fulham giving further fuel to the transfer conspiracy grapevine.
The striker, who is close friends with Hammer Michail Antonio, is out of contract at St James’ Park this summer. However, he’s believed to be on a hefty wage of around £100,000 per week.
Newcastle are walking a fine line with Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR), and getting Wilson off the books could pave the way for their transfer reinforcements this January.
Currently recovering from yet another injury, Wilson was left out of Eddie Howe’s squad for Newcastle’s clash with Wolves tonight. Ironically, his previous return from injury coincided with West Ham’s Premier League win in the North East earlier this season. Unfortunately, that comeback was short-lived, as Wilson found himself back in the treatment room almost immediately.
