West Ham United made the decision to appoint Graham Potter on Thursday last week.
That decision is now looking like an incredibly good one from West Ham.
Graham Potter has taken the Hammers on to another level already, since replacing Julen Lopetegui at the London Stadium.
Potter raved about his side’s performance against Fulham, praising the team ethic of his squad as a whole.
He was right as well. Everyone chipped in and the players were all pulling in the same direction.
Things are a lot easier that way right? The way we pressed aggressively as a unit with cohesion and efficiency was a joy to watch.
The really exciting thing is that there is undoubtedly plenty more where that came from.
Potter’s comments after the win over Fulham prove that we have a truly fantastic manager on our hands.
West Ham will love Graham Potter’s 20-word statement
The Hammers fans are all expecting to see big improvements with Potter at the helm.
And that is a fair expectation to have. The 49-year-old is an elite coach in my opinion, and he proved that with his tactical flexibility and proactiveness during our 3-2 win over the Cottagers.
The first two games overseen by Potter have been like night and day from what we’ve been used to watching under David Moyes and Lopetegui.
Potter made a very simple, short statement after the Fulham win, as quoted by The Evening Standard.
And my word, how good those 20 words were to hear:
“Far from perfect. We started passively. We changed that halfway through the first half. Lots to do, but great start.”
How refreshing is that to hear!
A manager who actually changes things that aren’t working midway through a half – we’ve been starved of that kind of tactical nouse for far too long now.
Moyes and Lopetegui were both paralysed by the fear of destabilising things midway through halves.
Now we have a head coach who spots problems and fixes them instantly.
I also love how he made it very clear that he wasn’t completely satisfied with the performance from his team.
There are much, much better things to come for West Ham with Graham Potter at the helm, I’m convinced of it.
