With a new coach comes new perspective and new opinions on existing players, along with a different view on player acquisitions. Graham Potter will have his own views on West Ham’s squad and may well arrive at different conclusions than his predecessor regarding player loans and sales.
In addition, we hope his input into the January window moves West Ham away from short term signings of long – past – their – best thirty – something players.
The same goes for other football clubs with new coaches: Sergio Conceicao, new boss at AC Milan and ironically reported to be one of Potter’s competitors for the head coach role at West Ham, has ‘scuppered’ the move West Ham were planning to make for defender Fikayo Tomori in the January window. According to caughtoffside.com‘s report today:
“..Because the new coach [Conceicao] wants Tomori to stay in the team and play an important role in his tactical set-up. That willingness to hold onto the 27-year-old is what could ultimately scupper West Ham’s chances.”
Multiple competitors were reportedly circling for the former Chelsea player including Juventus, plus the ‘usual Premier League’ suspects of ‘Villa and Newcastle. The 27 year-old centre-back target was seen as an ‘attainable’ Hammers target with a price reported to have been around the €25 million mark: English International Tomori is contracted until the summer of 2027 so West Ham may well have to look elsewhere.
