Tottenham left-back Sergio Reguilon has emerged as a top defensive target for Jose Mourinho and Fenerbahce
Tottenham Hotspur managed to shift the majority of the deadwood out of their squad during the past summer transfer window whilst adding fresh blood to Ange Postecoglou’s roster.
In came the likes of Dominic Solanke, Archie Gray, Lucas Bergvall, Wilson Odobert and Timo Werner. The North Londoners also made very good moves on the aspect of trimming their squad, as many of the players like Giovani Lo Celso, Ivan Perisic, Eric Dier, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Emerson Royal, and some more, either left the club on a permanent move or a loan stint. However, one player, despite a lot of thrills and spills was not able to find a new home for himself.
Sergio Reguilon has been a part of the Tottenham squad since 2020 but is now in the final six months of his contract (Transfermarkt). The Spaniard looked to have no future in North London, having been frozen out of the squad by Ange Postecoglou until December. The Madrid-born talent has been linked with several clubs for weeks and months, with Portuguese side SC Braga showing an interest in him recently.

The Spurs gaffer has been forced to recall him from the cold after seeing the majority of his defence wiped out by injury, with Destiny Udogie the latest player set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines following a hamstring problem. Sergio Reguilon has since played four games for Spurs, amassing 206 minutes in total, although there remains every chance of him departing in this transfer window.
According to Turkish outlet Fotomac, Fenerbahce boss Jose Mourinho had a meeting with Reguilon recently, expressing his desire to work with him again. The Turkish club’s sporting director Branco is set to travel to England to negotiate with Spurs for the left-back.
Fenerbahce have been in the market for a new left-back since Jayden Oosterwolde suffered a season-ending injury back in October. They have had negotiations with many names, including Yaimar Medina, but after Genk snapped him up, Reguilon has become Fenerbahce’s top left-back target again. However, the aforementioned report adds that the Turkish outfit does not want to pay a transfer fee for Reguilon.

This may prove to be an obstacle for Mourinho’s club as Spurs would like to get a nominal fee from the Spanish international’s sale in this transfer window. Given Udogie is injured and Davies appears to be counted as a backup central defender since the start of the season, there is no way the Lilywhites would release Reguilon from his contract.

Reguilon is the only left-back currently available at Postecoglou’s disposal, so unless Fenerbahce fulfils our club’s demands, we don’t see him leaving now.
