Whilst the striker hunt occupies most column inches this January, West Ham appear to be engaged in filling the mobile midfielder role at the same time. Alvarez and Soler certainly seem perked up since the end of the Lopetegui era ( what a difference a week makes!) but Rodriguez’ limited mobility and the midfield’s lack of pace isn’t going to change itself.
Hence when West Ham are linked with a young mobile midfielder on a loan deal it has a ring of authenticity about it.
Young Albanian Kristjan Asllani is struggling with the Italian giants and has been looked at by a couple of clubs domestically in Italy: Sport Witness – as checked in interlive.it – advise that:
“Inter are not ruling out an exit this month and in the meantime, West Ham have ‘made their voices heard’ for the 22-year-old Albanian midfielder.”
A domestic transfer would be first choice for West Ham: Whilst the links continue for loan players from across Europe it is clear the club are working hard to bring players in before the 4th February deadline. It has to be said with Potts, Earthy and Ward-Prowse out on loan and all available to bring back by agreement with their loan clubs, would the ‘recall’ option be a better choice than bringing in young talent from Serie A like Asllani, above, who would have a far more difficult job assimilating into the Premier League.
If the improvement shown in the early Potter era continues, maybe a case of ‘better the devil you know’ as far as West Ham’s midfield reinforcement is concerned.
