After a complete demolition of TSG Hoffenheim, Bayern Munich sit atop the Bundesliga table with a comfortable lead of four points. Eric Dier made his third start for Bayern Munich this season in the Bundesliga. Vincent Kompany’s reluctance to budge from the stable duo of Kim Min-jae and Dayot Upamecano saw Dier go down the pecking order. Regardless of the game time, Dier delivered back to back solid performances, first against Borussia Mönchengladbach and then against TSG Hoffenheim.
The former Tottenham Spurs player arrived from the Premier League to Munich in January of 2024. Despite that, Dier started 13 games in the Rückrunde for Bayern. He had quickly settled into the starting XI under Thomas Tuchel and delivered a solid and consistent performance and was amongst the best defenders along with Matthijs de Ligt. In fact, Kim and Upamecano were the shaky duo back then. However, things have improved for the latter this season and so much so that new coach Vincent Kompany has regularly preferred Kim and Upamecano over Eric Dier.
In a post-match interview with ESPN’s @archiert1 (via @iMiaSanMia), Dier opened up on adapting to the reduced game time. He said “For me its irrelevant. You prepare yourself in the best way and you train well everyday. You look after your body and obviously when you are given the opportunity to play, you perform to the best of your ability and give everything for the team.”
While he did not give any concrete statement regarding the contract extension, Dier appreciated the time spent at the club and would not mind staying for longer “I would love…yeah.. I love playing for this club. For me, I’m trying to focus on having the best six months collectively as a team and to have as much success as possible.”
