Tottenham boss delivers big team news ahead of Premier League clash with Everton
Ange Postecoglou has been handed an injury boost ahead of Tottenham Hotspur’s visit to Goodison Park to face Everton on Sunday.
Spurs have been plagued by injuries this season with eight players missing in the 2-1 defeat to Arsenal in midweek, including Guglielmo Vicario, Fraser Forster, Micky van de Ven, Cristian Romero, Ben Davies, Destiny Udogie, Rodrigo Bentancur and Wilson Odobert. It was a poor performance from Ange Postecoglou’s side, lacking the desire, commitment and spirit to compete in the North London derby.
With a quick turnaround time between fixtures, Tottenham cannot continue to lick their wounds from the derby defeat and switch their focus toward the trip to Everton.
Ange Postecoglou faced the media at the Hotspur Way on Friday afternoon. He was asked for an injury update on his first-team squad ahead of Spurs’ league game against Everton. The gaffer gave a positive injury update on Ben Davies, but also revealed a couple of his players are doubtful ahead of Sunday’s game. (h/t Football London):
“There’s a couple still sore from mid-week, just waiting to see how Brennan is, he’s got a bit of a calf complaint, and Biss has been sore as well, so just waiting for information on them. Coming back, Ben Davies should be involved.”
The return of Big Davies from injury is a big boost for Tottenham. The experienced defender suffered a hamstring injury during the 1-0 defeat to Bournemouth in December. He returned to training earlier this month, only to suffer a setback and miss a few more games. Having the Welshman in the squad gives Big Ange more options in defence, allowing him to at least rotate in the upcoming games.

On the flip side, Brennan Johnson and Yves Bissouma are doubts for the trip to Everton, with the former complaining of a calf problem. It has been that kind of a season where one has returned to fitness and a couple of players have dropped out. We can only hope Johnson and Bissouma overcome their issues and make themselves available for a challenging game at Goodison Park.

Buoyed by the return of David Moyes in the dugout, Everton will make life difficult for Big Ange’s boys with the direct, physical and counter-attacking style of football. Spurs have to be resilient at the back and take control of the game as early as possible. We desperately need three points against a poor Toffees’ side to give the gaffer some respite.
