Tottenham may be struggling on the pitch under Ange Postecoglou, but they continue thriving as far as their aim of becoming a club attractive for young prospects under Technical Director Johan Lange is concerned.
To that end, they have been monitoring another promising teenager, and they have finally been told what it will take to land him by his current employers.
Revealed: Price tag for teenage Tottenham target Mason Melia
As reported by Tottenham News, Irish Premier Division side St Patrick’s Athletic are willing to expect a fee in the region of £2 million to let their teenage sensation Mason Melia leave, who’s closely monitored by Tottenham Hotspur.
The Republic of Ireland U19 international, who turned 17 last September, has been a part of St Patrick’s first team since the start of 2023. Spurs made a £1m bid for him earlier in the season, which was promptly turned down by The Athletic.
Melia’s current contract with St Pat’s is set to run until November 2026. His numbers for their senior first team so far read: 54 appearances, 10 goals, and three assists.
TTLB Opinion
By all accounts, Melia looks like a promising player, especially given his age and how long he has been a first-team mainstay despite it.
The purported fee is paltry in comparison to the likes that are usually asked for 17-year-old prospects these days, and if Tottenham’s recent track record with young players is to be taken into account, we can rest assured that Melia indeed has the potential if handled with care.
Melia cannot be expected to help the Tottenham first team for the moment, of course, but his signing could further solidify Tottenham’s overarching targets in the transfer market in the long term.
