The Australian head coach, Ange Postecoglou, is facing calls to be sacked after Tottenham Hotspur’s 3-2 defeat against Everton at Goodison Park on Sunday that sees the Lilywhites struggling in the bottom half of the Premier League table as the North Londoners continue to endure a difficult 2024/25 season.
It was a toothless performance from Spurs as they visited the Merseysiders, who put through 3 first-half goals behind Tottenham’s latest winter arrival, Antonin Kinsky, before Ange’s side got two back in the latter forty-five. However, they left things a bit too late for them to even think about snatching a point, and now the Lilywhites lay 15th in the Premier League table, just eight points clear of the relegation zone.
You could argue that a lack of depth has been a problem for Tottenham this season given the number of injuries they have suffered. And while it’s the head coach’s responsibility to keep the side floating, he has been dealt with a hand that only a few managers could have got through successfully.
Son backs Ange
And while Postecoglou suffers the wrath of a possible sack, Spurs skipper Heung-min Son insists that he and the team are equally responsible for the inconsistent performances.
Speaking in an interview before the Lilywhites defeat against Everton, Son said (via. The Mirror):
“It’s not only the manager, it’s also the players and everybody. The results are not something someone should take all the responsibility and blame for. Sometimes it is unlucky that you don’t get the results.
“Not only the gaffer, but every player, including me first, we have to take responsibility for this kind of situation. It’s not the time to be pointing [fingers] at each other. At the moment it’s important that we stick together in every circumstance.”
It is to be seen where this goes from here; does the board continue to back the Australian head coach, or will there be a change of personnel at the helm at White Hart Lane?
