Manchester City would be keen on bringing Douglas Luiz back to the Premier League this month, according to reports.
The Brazilian international made the move to Juventus at the start of the season but he has struggled to hold down a first-team place.
With Pep Guardiola‘s side hoping to reinforce their midfield options, The Athletic journalist David Ornstein claims that they are interested in recruiting Luiz on loan.
However, there is an obstacle that could prevent the switch from happening before the transfer window closes at the end of January.
Juve want to sell Luiz
Ornstein says that the midfielder’s current club are not interested in loaning him out unless there is an “obligation to buy” included in the offer.
The Bianconeri paid Aston Villa just over £42m for Luiz so they are not willing to let him leave unless there are some guarantees that they will receive money from his departure.
City’s rivals are big fans of the Brazilian
When Luiz was still at Villa, Arsenal tabled three separate bids for his services in the 2022 summer transfer window, only for each offer to be rejected.
The midfielder would go to sign a new contract and stay at Villa Park for two more years before his departure for Italy.
If he does make the switch to the Etihad, Luiz will be back in somewhat familiar surroundings. He did sign for the Cityzens from Vasco da Gama in the summer of 2017, although he didn’t actually play for the club.
Soon after arriving in Manchester, the player was sent out on loan to Girona. Luiz remained in Spain for two seasons before he was sold to Villa. City retained a buyback option but they did not choose to trigger it. However, there is now a chance he could return if Juventus are open to doing business.
