Richarlison returned to Goodison Park on Sunday as Everton beat Tottenham Hotspur 3-2 in the Premier League – and the Brazilian was lauded for his actions after the full-time whistle
Richarlison demonstrated a touch of class as he applauded the Everton faithful following the Toffees’ 3-2 victory over Tottenham Hotspur at Goodison Park. After the match concluded, the Brazilian forward made a point to salute his former supporters, taking a lap of appreciation around the pitch, clapping and waving to the fans who remained in the stands.
His gesture highlighted that the 27-year-old, who was an Everton player for four years before his move to Spurs in 2022, still cherishes his time with the Blues. And the warm exchange didn’t go unnoticed on social media either, after footage of the poignant moment circulated online.
One fan said: “I’ll not have a bad word said about Richarlison me, don’t care what anyone else says. That [Frank] Lampard season when we were on the brink, he literally come out and said he wouldn’t let us go down.
“After that he stepped up, played himself into the ground for this club. If it wasn’t for him and [Jordan] Pickford we’d have been long gone.” Another supporter added: “I can understand people getting annoyed at the fans singing a former player’s name and applauding him when he comes on etc. Not him though, he’s different.”
Meanwhile, a third chimed in: “He’s a different breed. He gets what it’s like to be an Evertonian. Wish he could come home,” reports the Mirror. Richarlison began his professional journey at America Mineiro in 2015, moved to Fluminense the next year, and was snapped up by Watford in 2017, eventually joining Everton in 2018.
Richarlison netted 53 times in 152 outings for the Blues, and although he couldn’t propel the Toffees to a Premier League title challenge, his contributions were crucial in their successful fight against relegation in the 2021/22 season – when they managed to avoid the drop by four points.
In the summer of 2022, Richarlison made a £60million switch to Tottenham Hotspur. However, he has found it difficult to replicate his scoring form in London, managing just 17 goals from 75 appearances so far.
The 2024/25 season has been a turbulent one for Spurs, who currently languish in 15th place in the Premier League under Ange Postecoglou, with a record of seven victories, three draws and 12 defeats. Spurs fans would have been hoping for a vital win at Goodison Park on Sunday, but instead, they returned home nursing the wounds of a third successive league loss.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin broke the deadlock for Everton after 13 minutes, before Iliman Ndiaye doubled the lead on the half-hour mark. Spurs found themselves three goals down when Archie Gray inadvertently scored an own goal deep into first-half stoppage time.

Despite late goals from Dejan Kulusevski and Richarlison himself, they proved mere consolations as Everton claimed all three points. The win puts the Toffees at 16th in the Premier League standings, four points clear of the drop zone.
