Things are going from bad to worse for Tottenham. Not only did they lose to Everton at the weekend, they also saw their last remaining out-and-out centre-back limp off at half-time.
And so the Lilywhites are linked with centre-backs in the ongoing transfer market, and their desperation may see them make some shock moves.
Tottenham considering shock move for Tosin Adarabioyo
As reported by CaughtOffside, Chelsea defender Tosin Adarabioyo is one of a fair few centre-backs Tottenham are considering making a move for in an attempt to solve their defensive crisis.
Spurs’ only remaining out-and-out centre-back ahead of Everton last week, Radu Drăgușin, also went off injured on Sunday as his side lost 3-2 to the Toffees. However, Ben Davies did start the game and can be expected to deputise at centre-back.
Adarabioyo, 27, arrived at Stamford Bridge only in the summer for free, having left Fulham the season before. The Blues are not expected to willingly let him go, especially to a direct local rival, but they will be willing to listen to substantial offers.
Apart from the Manchester City academy product, Spurs are also linked with out-of-favour PSG defender Milan Škriniar and AC Milan’s Fikayo Tomori.
Adarabioyo has made some decent performances of late and has three goals for Chelsea in 18 appearances this season.
TTLB Opinion
Yes, Chelsea are likely to not entertain the idea of strengthening their rivals, but the reason why they would put a summer arrival on the market in the first place means they’d be inclined to hear what Spurs may have to say, and the latter’s desperation may result in an offer good enough to tempt the Blues.
Adarabioyo is a solid top-flight operator who could make things better at the back for Spurs right away. A local move would mean he’d need less time to acclimatise to his new surroundings as well.
Daniel Levy is usually not the type of chairman who likes to be held for ransom, but if he can reach an agreement that suits him and Chelsea, Adarabioyo could one a season-defining signing.
