West Ham United are reportedly interested in Monaco striker Breel Embolo, according to Hammers ITK ExWHUEmployee.
Monaco face Aston Villa in the Champions League this week, a match that should highlight two strikers linked with West Ham—Embolo and Villa’s Colombian forward Jhon Duran. The Hammers recently submitted a £57m bid for Duran, which was promptly rejected and labelled an “insulting” and “derisory” offer.
The latest links with Monaco add to a long history of connections between the clubs. Monaco previously signed Thilo Kehrer from West Ham and made a low-ball loan bid for Edson Alvarez.
Embolo, a Swiss international with 56 caps and nine goals, is currently under a four-year contract at Monaco. West Ham’s interest in the 26-year-old stretches back to his early days at FC Basel, followed by stints at Schalke 04 and Borussia Mönchengladbach before joining the French side.
Known for his pace, strength, and ability to play in wide positions, Embolo has drawn comparisons to Hammers forward Michail Antonio. However, Ex reporting renewed interest could make things very interesting if the club have finally come around to the forwards qualities.
I feel like I’ve been writing blogs or recording videos about Embolo for the best part of seven years. While he might not surpass Youssef En-Nesyri as the most-rumoured player linked to East London, the frequency of these reports is almost as prolific as Embolo’s modest goalscoring record.
That said, I’ve always believed he’s a talented player who would have suited West Ham under David Moyes. Whether the new gaffer, Graham Potter, shares that view remains to be seen.
