Bayern Munich found themselves a new title challenger in Bayer Leverkusen, but there are some who wish that Borussia Dortmund would get it together and become a contender again. Their coach needs to go, and Lothar Matthäus knows exactly who they should appoint.
“If Jogi Löw were standing on the sidelines – it was similar back then with Franz Beckenbauer at Bayern,” Matthäus began (as captured by Sky Sports Germany journos Kerry Hau and Florian Plettenberg | @Plettigoal). “When Franz was there, there was calm. There were still strong personalities in the background, but Franz was in charge.
“That’s why Jogi Löw would be a possibility for me to bring some calm to the team initially and then focus on finding a long-term coach,” Matthäus concluded.
Bayern fans remember the saga of replacing Thomas Tuchel. Coincidentally, the former Germany coach was one of the first names being thrown around and turned it down almost immediately, citing the lofty standards of the club. Considering that his Die Mannschaft tenure ended on a bit of a sour note, fans across the country are familiar with his game. By extension, he said back then that he’d wait out a bit before going back into club management.
The interesting thing here is that the report states that the 64-year-old is ready to take on a job at club level. Dortmund must avoid morphing into Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur at all costs.
