West Ham United have to do everything possible to break Juventus hearts in the January transfer window.
We’ve done it before, and we can do it again.
West Ham director of football Tim Steidten flew out to Nice in the summer to hijack Juve’s move to sign Jean-Clair Todibo at the 11th hour.
Whether or not Todibo will turn out to be a good signing for the Hammers is very much a debate for another day.
However, what is clear is that West Ham have huge pulling power, so much so that we convinced the France international to join us over European giants Juventus.
So why won’t we be able to do the same thing again in the January window?
The Hammers are seriously short in the central defensive department at the London Stadium right now.
And that will have to change if Graham Potter is to have any chance whatsoever of guiding us to a successful 2024/25 campaign.
West Ham have to hijack Juventus move to sign Fikayo Tomori
Fikayo Tomori has been on the Hammers’ radar for quite some time now.
It was claimed at the beginning of January that West Ham were trying really hard to bring the 27-year-old back to the Premier League.
However, it’s all gone rather quiet since then…up until now that is at least.
Tomori is said to be closing in on a move to Serie A giants Juventus.
The England international’s proposed move from AC Milan to Juventus is said to be worth around €30 million (£25 million), according to Gazzetta dello Sport journalist Lucas Bianchin.
I’m sorry, but we just can’t let this move happen considering our problems in central defence right now.
The Hammers are crying out for someone with Tomori’s skill-set, and for just £25 million, signing him should be a no-brainer this month.
Tomori would strengthen West Ham’s defence immeasurably
The AC Milan defender is an elite centre-back.
Former Manchester City and Chelsea star Shaun Wright-Phillips once described Tomori as ‘outstanding’ and he’s absolutely spot on there.
The 27-year-old centre-back is a top-class player, and it goes without saying that he’d be a big upgrade on Konstantinos Mavropanos.
The former Chelsea man is incredibly strong in the air, and possesses decent pace. He’s an intelligent defender and his positional awareness is absolutely spot on.
I think he would improve the way we defend as a team immediately, what with his organisational skills and leadership.
Signing Fikayo Tomori for just £25 million in the January window would make perfect sense for West Ham.
Beating Juventus to the signing of an elite central defender shouldn’t be a problem should it, we’ve done it before after all!
