Bayern Munich came short just when the onus was on them to confirm qualification to the knockout stages of the Champions League. This was a game Bayern simply couldn’t afford to lose, and yet here we are.
Jersey Swap: Santiago Giménez
The forward was like a hot knife cutting through the butter that was Bayern’s defense. Every time he made a run at the defense, a goal opportunity seemed inevitable. A brilliantly taken goal with a superb first touch and a fantastic finish off a perfect long ball from Gijs Smal was the start of Bayern’s woes. He soon doubled the anguish with a coolly executed penalty after a cheap foul conceded by Raphël Guerreiro.
Giménez was definitely the best attacker on the pitch tonight.
Der Kaiser: Nobody
That was an utter collapse.
Der Fußballgott: Leon Goretzka
This man is having some very solid outings of late. Extremely resilient and strong with his defensive challenges, the midfielder was a gladiator in a dire effort from the team to salvage anything from what seemed to be an uphill battle from the first half hour of the game.
Der Bomber: Nobody
What attack?
Meister of the Match: Justin Bijlow
Absolutely sensational goalkeeping. Single-handedly kept Bayern’s shots out of the equation and played one of the best games ever witnessed in the UCL. He made save after stunning save to keep Bayern’s attack frustrated throughout the game and exemplified the nature of Feyenoord’s performance tonight. Simply astounding. Rightly awarded the player of the match.
Maybe Bayern Munich should sign him too and then sell him after two seasons because he isn’t Manuel Neuer 2.0.
