Tottenham defender Micky van de Ven is set to return to training next week
Having seen their 2024/25 season derailed by injuries, Tottenham Hotspur have struggled massively in the Premier League. Ange Postecoglou’s side have slipped to 15th in the table after suffering a 3-2 defeat to Everton at Goodison Park on Sunday.
The Spurs fans are extremely worried about their team’s form. They have won only once in the last 10 Premier League games which is unacceptable and relegation form, mounting massive pressure on Ange Postecoglou. Although the Australian is not at immediate risk of losing his job, results must improve quickly in the Premier League to help him buy more time.
In terms of injuries, Tottenham received a boost on Wednesday with Cristian Romero returning to team training. However, he has not travelled with the squad to Germany for the Europa League encounter against Hoffenheim as the Argentinean looks to achieve full fitness before getting involved in competition action.
In addition to Romero, club insider Paul O Keefe has provided further encouraging news on the injury front. He posted on his X account that Tottenham plan to have Micky van de Ven back in full training from next week.
“In more positive news. The plan and hope is for Micky van de Ven to resume full training from next week,” Paul O Keefe tweeted.
Postecoglou has finally received some positive news with the potential return of Van de Ven. The 23-year-old and his centre-back partner Romero have undoubtedly been Tottenham’s biggest misses this campaign. Their lack of availability have seen Big Ange’s defence concede goals at an alarming rate.
Van de Ven has only managed 11 appearances across all competitions thus far this campaign. The Netherlands international suffered a relapse of his hamstring issue in the 4-3 defeat to Chelsea in early December. Before that, he was sidelined with hamstring and knee injuries respectively. Overall, the centre-back has missed 23 games alone to date.

There is no doubt that Van de Ven is one of the most crucial players in Big Ange’s squad. He makes a massive difference to the side when fit and firing on the pitch, allowing Tottenham to play a high defensive line to good effect.

Thus, the return of Van de Ven and Romero cannot come sooner for Big Ange, who currently just has a natural centre-back in Radu Dragusin. Them coming back would provide a huge lift to the morally-sapped squad, helping bring much-needed stability to the backline.
