Tottenham’s injury issues have been worsened by the long-term injury to Dominic Solanke.
With their in-form record signing now out of action, Spurs have had to increase the intensity of their efforts to bring in another forward, though they are set to miss out on one of their targets.
Tottenham set to miss out on Santiago Giménez, who’s bound for AC Milan
As reported by TBR Football, AC Milan are leading the race to sign Feyenoord forward Santiago Giménez for a fee in the region of €40 million.
The Argentina-born Mexico international has been linked with a move away from the Netherlands for a few windows now, having been consistently delivering for the Stadionclub over the past few seasons.
This season, the 23-year-old has 15 goals and three assists from 18 appearances across all competitions.
The Giménez development comes as a blow for Tottenham, who alongside West Ham are keen to get a forward in this transfer window and had Giménez on their wishlist. Spurs’ situation up front has further been worsened by the long-term injury to Dominic Solanke.
The Lilywhites have also been linked with Ansu Fati and Jonathan David this month.
TTLB Opinion
Even with Solanke’s injury, it is unlikely Spurs manage to convince many players in and around Giménez’s age to come play for them, especially if they, like Giménez, are on an upward trajectory and have offers from Champions League regulars.
Moreover, one need only look to the Harry Kane days to be reminded of how hard it is for forward, however good, to maintain form when they’re not playing week in, week out.
