While it is still internally expected at Bayern Munich that both Manuel Neuer and Sven Ulreich will both be getting one-year contract extensions, there could still yet be some movement in the goalkeeping department at the club. For one, Ulreich’s extension is not yet a foregone conclusion and Bayern is also heavily interested in signing Jonas Urbig from FC Köln before the January transfer window closes.
It has been reported that Bayern has agreed a fee of around €7-8m to sign Urbig, as the keeper had expressed his desire to leave Köln, but much like Ulreich and Daniel Peretz, he will be assuming a backup role with Neuer continuing on as the number one keeper.
Despite the expected arrival of Urbig, Peretz has remained resolute in wanting to stay at Bayern and fight for his place in the team. The door was open to a potential loan move during the transfer window, but that is not something he wants to do. Per information from Sport Bild (via @iMiaSanMia), the keeper wants to resume team training as soon as possible and he is very much relishing the competition to come with the anticipated arrival of Urbig.
The Israeli international also said he “feels a good team spirit and that this team can achieve big things,” which is a big part of the reason why he refused the chance to go out on loan to a different club this winter. He very much wants to be a part of this team under Vincent Kompany that is still pushing across two fronts to try to get back in the form of winning silverware come mid-May/early June.
RC Lens, Tottenham Hotspur, and even Como had expressed interest in trying to get Peretz on loan this winter, but the keeper’s commitment and willingness to fight for his place at Bayern led him to reject the notion of going out on loan. He is staying in Munich for now, but could find minutes rather difficult to come by with all of Neuer, Ulreich, and Urbig in the ranks alongside him.
