Ange Postecoglou has been frustrated with Tottenham’s lack of transfer activity
Tottenham Hotspur have already bolstered their squad since the winter window opened, with goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky completing a move from Slavia Prague earlier this month. But boss Ange Postecoglou is seeking further reinforcements before the transfer window slams shut.
An injury crisis at White Hart Lane has hampered the team’s progress in Ange Postecoglou’s second season in North London. A 3-2 defeat at Everton last weekend saw Spurs slip to a lowly 15th in the Premier League table—just eight points above the drop zone.
Whilst the Lilywhites’ defensive injury crisis hasn’t helped their position in the standings, a backup striker is desperately needed in the coming week of the transfer window with Dominic Solanke set to be sidelined for at least six weeks. Tottenham are struggling at this moment and need help in terms of fresh faces.
-> Ange Postecoglou makes Tottenham transfer plea after Everton defeat
Postecoglou made a transfer plea after the 3-2 defeat to Everton, but with the transfer window entering its final stages now, the Hotspur Way chiefs have failed to deliver off the pitch.
Ahead of the home game against Leicester City, Postecoglou was asked by the media about Tottenham’s lack of signings after Kinsky’s acquisition from Slavia Prague. He said (h/t Football London):
“There’s not a lot more depth I can give. I’ve still got to manage this team and get them ready. We got back at 2am last night. I’m not out there trying to find opportunities for the club, that’s not my role at this time. There isn’t time to do it.
“I have daily communication with Johan in particular and he’s trying everything he possibly can to get the help we need. I don’t think I’m stating anything other than the obvious and for me to come here and say something else would be disingenuous: this playing group needs help, there’s no doubt about that. We’re sort of playing with fire by not bringing anyone in. But the flip side of that is the club is trying to change that situation.”
-> “Next week”- Big Ange drops positive injury updates on Tottenham Hotspur duo
Spurs have had a hectic fixture schedule, often having to play at the weekend and in midweek. This is not set to change, with several important matches coming up which could define their season. Thus, Big Ange needs a strong squad to compete on all fronts but his first-team ranks has been massively depleted due to injuries.
The Greek-Australian has made it clear that the hierarchy must help the players by strengthening his squad. Tottenham have a number of big games coming up, yet many of his key players are not primed to return from injuries immediately. It is a blunt truth that the club chiefs are playing with fire by not bringing in fresh faces, despite knowing the condition of the squad and the challenges the coach has been facing.
