As soon as Bayern Munich’s injured players return, others get hurt. That seems to simply be the cycle at Bayern and it seemed to show no sign of stopping. Following Josip Stanišić’s return to the bench in the Champions League in midweek, Alphonso Davies was hurt and faces a recovery period of up to two months. Stanišić then gets to make his comeback over the weekend, but only to replace an injured Leon Goretzka. How very typical.
However, initial impressions are that Goretzka got off a lot easier than Davies. Via @iMiaSanMia:
Leon Goretzka did not suffer a serious injury. An MRI test did not reveal any tear/strain to the muscle. The midfielder is suspended against Bratislava [in the Champions League] on Wednesday anyway.
Is that it or do the injury gods have a greater wrath in store for Bayern? Will they take it out on their favorite victim Sacha Boey, after he also made his return to the bench against Freiburg? Hopefully not. Hopefully Bayern’s squad can finally stay somewhat fit during the business end of the season.
