Chelsea really appreciate Bournemouth centre back Dean Huijsen and he’s high on their list of targets according to Fabrizio Romano.
The Blues were beaten 3-1 by Manchester City at the Etihad on Saturday evening and dropped to sixth in the table, and it’s now just one win in their last seven league games.
Chelsea have just over a week left to act in the January window to strengthen the squad and give Enzo Maresca the best chance of finishing in the top four.
Chelsea big fans of Huijsen
The Blues have strengthened defensively this month by recalling Trevoh Chalobah from his loan spell at Crystal Palace, whilst they have also agreed a deal to sign Strasbourg centre half Mamadou Sarr for €15m, with the teenager set to arrive in the summer.
Chelsea had explored a move for Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi, but it’s believed they may look into that again in the summer when the England international will have just a year left on his current deal.
The Athletic have reported Chelsea are looking to sign an “established” centre half in the summer, with the Blues lacking leadership and experience at the back following the departure of Thiago Silva.
Who that might be remains to be seen but Romano has provided an update on Huijsen, who Chelsea are said to be big admirers of.
He took to X.com and said:
“Understand Dean Huijsen has release clause into his contract valid from this summer.
“Told Chelsea really appreciate Huijsen and he’s high on the list, Bayern called to be informed. Bournemouth are unbeaten since Huijsen entered in the starting XI, with 8 clean sheets.”
Huijsen arrived at Bournemouth from Juventus in the summer and has put in a series of impressive performances for the Cherries this season.
He’s another young, talented centre back at just 19-years-old, but you have to question whether potentially adding another teenager into the mix is what Chelsea need to take them forward.
