Tottenham Hotspur defender and vice-captain Cristian Romero has been serving the sidelines with the latest ongoing muscle injury that has seen him miss 13 consecutive fixtures since December, and this absence has left Ange Postecoglou’s side in deep defensive problems with the North Londoners struggling to put in consistent performances.
The Lilywhites season has been plagued with injuries that have seen them lagging in 15th place in the Premier League as the pressure continues to mount on the Australian head coach after the North Londoners failed to win against Leicester City last evening.
Loss of form complemented by injury problems
The Argentine World Cup is a crucial part of the North Londoners roster, and he is a commanding presence at the back, and without him, Tottenham has struggled to maintain the structure that has led to multiple defensive lapses.
To put things into perspective, even Romero has been struggling with form and consistency this season; he has not been his usual self since those rumours linking him to Real Madrid started circulating in the previous summer transfer window.
So, a Madrid move in line for Romero?
However, he may well be on his way out of White Hart Lane with established links with an N17 exit, and former Tottenham midfielder Chris Waddle insists that the defender may be looking for an exit and would rather move to a club like Barcelona or Real Madrid, citing his body language and form this season alongside the injuries.
Speaking to AceOdds via Teamtalk, he went on to question Romero’s commitment to staying put at N17. He said:
“Romero is a good, old-fashioned centre-half who’s not afraid to leave his foot in. He’ll hit you if he has to hit you. He’s not afraid of a yellow card or a red.
“His body language after last season suggests he doesn’t really want to be at the club anymore. I think he believes he should be at Real Madrid or Barcelona. If he wants to go, it’s better for Tottenham to cash in and buy someone who wants to play for the club.”

And then the club can figure out a sale or renewal of commitment in the summer…
