David Ornstein believes Arsenal will make a forward signing before the January transfer deadline, with just a week to go now.
The January transfer deadline is fast approaching, with just seven days to go until February 3rd, and Arsenal are still yet to have any substantial links with an attacking signing.
With the exception of attacking midfielder Sverre Nypan, it’s all a bit quiet right now. But David Ornstein tells NBC Sports that he believes Arsenal will make a signing, he just doesn’t know who it will be yet.
“I think they will do something,” Ornstein said. “Don’t know for sure, but that’s my sense because work is ongoing inside the club to explore their various options to bring in somebody that Mikel Arteta feels is the ‘right one’.”
“Many people will be watching this saying ‘give us some names, give us some names’,” Ornstein continued. “Well, right now I don’t know who Arsenal are going to bring in, in this window.
“We’ll have to watch this space on a striker.”
It’s unlikely Arsenal will sign one of their key long-term targets, with deals for players like Alexander Isak and Benjamin Sesko not possible until the summer at the earliest. So a potential signing is likely to come out of left field.
With Gabriel Jesus out for the season, Bukayo Saka still well over a month away from a return, and even concerns about Kai Havertz’s fitness, Arsenal definitely need an addition. But that doesn’t make it any easier to do business.
A loan would probably be the best option, it’s just not clear who is available and able to raise the level of the squad.
Perhaps links to Evan Ferguson could make a comeback, with Foot Mercato claiming Arsenal have considered a move and Brighton seemingly willing to loan.
But that would require Arsenal to cut short (or turn permanent) one of their other Premier League loans, as they’ve already hit the limit of two. It’s all guesswork at this stage.
