David Moyes has absolutely raved about West Ham ace Pablo Fornals, but his words are nothing more than hollow praise.
Pablo Fornals scored the West Ham winner against AZ Alkmaar on Thursday night, after David Moyes brought him on as a late substitute.
Moyes has been under huge pressure from the Hammers fans this season. Aside from our European run, it has been a really hard campaign, with some really poor football on view at the London Stadium.
Moyes’s stubbornness and refusal to change has cost us in the Premier League, and his team selection has been totally baffling at times, none more so than the way that he has completely ostracised Fornals over the past six or seven months.
However, the Scot chose to praise the Spaniard during his press conference yesterday…
David Moyes’ praise of Pablo Fornals is nothing more than hollow words
The Scot spoke to reporters during his pre-match press conference yesterday.
And Moyes absolutely raved about Fornals, as quoted by WHUFC.com:
“Pablo is a player that we really like. He is a great energetic player who does great work for the team, and he also has a knack for coming up with goals. There was the one at Bournemouth and in the semi-final. He has been a great team player over the last two years, and I have really enjoyed working with him. He is a great boy.”
That’s all well and good from Moyes, but his actions just don’t back up his words unfortunately.
The 27-year-old has really struggled for game-time since October last year – he has started just seven games out of the Hammers’ last 27 Premier League matches.
And in six of those 27 games, Moyes didn’t even bring him on off the bench. Fornals has been given just 633 minutes of action in the Premier League since we beat Fulham on October 9th (Transfermarkt).
Fornals has played just 30 minutes per game on average during those 21 matches where he has featured.
It’s clear to see from those numbers that Moyes isn’t a huge fan of Fornals. The proof is in the pudding really isn’t it.
And that’s why David Moyes praising West Ham ace Pablo Fornals yesterday was nothing more than a hollow gesture.
