- Marseille aim to sell Matteo Guendouzi for more than double their initial €12 million investment
- Arsenal stand to benefit financially from the sell-on clause included in Guendouzi’s transfer deal
- Aston Villa are the most likely destination for Guendouzi, with Unai Emery guiding The Villans into the Europa Conference League
Marseille are reportedly looking to make a significant profit on midfielder Matteo Guendouzi this summer, and Arsenal could benefit due to the sell-on clause they have in place for the French international.
Marseille aiming to cash in on Guendouzi
According to L’Équipe, Marseille are planning a squad revamp this summer, which could see them parting ways with Guendouzi.
The 24-year-old, whose contract runs until June 2025, joined Marseille from Arsenal for €12 million just a year ago.
The French club now hopes to receive more than double that amount in the upcoming transfer window.
Arsenal to profit from sell-on clause
As a part of the deal that saw Guendouzi move from Arsenal to Marseille, the Gunners included a sell-on clause, although the exact percentage is not known.
If Marseille successfully sell the midfielder for a substantial profit, Arsenal stand to benefit financially.
Interest from Premier League clubs
Despite a decline in playing time, Guendouzi has caught the attention of several English clubs, with West Ham, Newcastle, and Aston Villa showing interest.
Aston Villa, who finished 7th in the Premier League, have emerged as the most likely destination for Guendouzi, given their previous interest in the player and participation in European competition.
Reunion with former manager
If Guendouzi does make a move to Aston Villa, he will reunite with his former Arsenal manager, Unai Emery, who coached him at the London club from 2018 to November 2019.
Guendouzi faces challenges in second season at OM
Guendouzi is reportedly struggling with reduced playing time and a shifted position in his second season at Olympique de Marseille (OM).
Guendouzi faces competition from Valentin Rongier and Jordan Veretout, making it difficult for him to secure his preferred spot.
Despite his entourage downplaying the situation, there is a lot of speculation that Guendouzi will consider leaving OM this summer, with a potential return to the Premier League seem as the most likely outcome.
