Antonio: “Scamacca needs a different type of manager”
Michail Antonio has fired a West Ham verbal rocket ahead of the Europa Conference Final the like of which has surely hardly been heard before inside a football club.
It raises the issue regarding Gianluca Scamacca who cost the club £30 million from Italy last summer and his relationship with David Moyes.
A top Hammers source has already told Claret and Hugh exclusively that the club has doubts over his future since he changed agents earlier this season.
Now Mikey has spoken out on how he sees the situation between the striker and manager Moyes which in itself may cause problems between himself and the boss.
Scamacca’s absence for most of the season has raised questions about his relationship with Moyes off and on the pitch. Injuries and indifferent form has led him into a limbo West Ham scenario where fans have been left wondering whether he can ever fit into a Moyes system.
Now Mikey appears to have answered the question for them and he should surely know!
The Hammers striker says Scamacca is a ‘quality player’ but that he is simply not a Moyes player and needs a different manager to get the best out of his talents.
West Ham’s £30 million striker and Moyes claimed to be a misfit
Speaking on The Filthy Fellas podcast Antonio did not hold back with his opinion declaring: “I’m going to be honest with you lot, he’s actually quality. He is a quality player. The problem is, he can’t play the way the gaffer plays.
“He needs a different type of manager to play his type of football. Yes, he’s alright (in terms of his English). He needs a manager who, he can be playing and other players can come off him and stuff like that.
“You can see that the ball comes into him and it sticks and he’s tidy. But how David Moyes plays is more like, if you’re up front you’re dealing with scraps and you’ve got to be more of a fighter.”
