Hammers boss David Moyes deploys a system whereby his lone striker is expected to run the channels and be a constant menace to opposing defenders.
That quite simply isn’t Ings’ style. And as a result, he has had to be very patient over the past five months…
West Ham ace Danny Ings makes complete U-turn
The 30-year-old forward has been speaking to exclusively Football.London about his first five months at the London Stadium.
And Ings admitted that he still hasn’t fully settled with West Ham:
“It’s the first time I’ve moved midway through a season, so it was quite new to me at the time. I wouldn’t say I’m completely settled yet, but the group have really helped me with that. I feel like I’ve known them for years to be honest, it was such an easy transition, everybody is good lads and you can see exactly why we’ve been in Europe for the last two seasons.”
Those comments were in stark contrast to his his remarks back in April, just three months after he swapped the West Midlands for East London.
Ings told Sky Sports how moving to the London Stadium was the easiest transition he has made during his career to date.
The experienced striker has bagged just three goals in 22 games for the Hammers (Transfermarkt). Those numbers tell their own story really.
If Ings is ever going to fully fit in at West Ham, either Moyes needs to change his system or a new manager will have to come in and mix things up. It really is as simple as that.
