Hammers boss David Moyes is on the hunt for a top-class central midfielder this summer, with Declan Rice apparently set to leave the London Stadium.
Yesterday, West Ham were heavily linked with a move to sign Edson Alvarez from Ajax.
And now it seems like Moyes has another player in particular on his wish-list…
West Ham in for Emiliano Martinez
Traspasos reckon that the 23-year-old is a transfer target for the Hammers and Everton this summer.
The Uruguayan, who plays for Danish side FC Midtjylland, is an out and out defensive midfielder.
His stats in the Europa League this season make for really impressive reading. In six outings, Martinez averaged three tackles, one interception and 1.1 clearances per game (Who Scored).
Total Football Analysis described Martinez as a ‘fantastic all-round’ player.
I have to say, I would be really underwhelmed if the FC Midtjylland midfielder was brought in to be the sole replacement for Rice.
Don’t get me wrong, he’s a very good player, but he isn’t anywhere near Dec’s level. I would be hugely surprised if Moyes signed Emiliano Martinez for West Ham, without bringing another top-class central midfielder to the London Stadium as well.
This will be a massive summer ahead for Moyes and the transfer team at West Ham. The Scot has to get his signings 100% spot on.
Emiliano Martinez may well end up being a decent addition for the future but the Hammers need to be aiming a lot higher than the Uruguayan, if we are to challenge for the top seven in the Premier League again next season.
