The Hammers do have an option to extend his current deal by a further two years. However, Manu is being heavily linked with an exit, with the likes of Aston Villa chasing his signature.
Lanzini’s boyhood club River Plate are keen to re-sign him as well.
So what does the future hold for the 30-year-old? Could he really leave East London after eight years with West Ham?
Manuel Lanzini hints at West Ham exit
The Argentinian ace has been speaking about his future at West Ham.
Aaron Cresswell is the Hammers’ longest serving current player, whilst Angelo Ogbonna is the second. Lanzini arrived just a couple of weeks after Oggy, so is our third longest serving current player.
It seems like his days in the East End could be numbered though.
Lanzini responded when asked about links with a return to River Plate, as quoted by El Grafico:
“It was a difficult year because I did not have the minutes I wanted. I know that there is a lot of talk about my return. I still haven’t thought anything about my future. I’m going to rest with my family and see what the future holds for me. Obviously one always returns to where he was happy, but the truth is I don’t know what I’m going to do, I don’t want to give River hope either, I hope it’s the best.”
That sounds to me like he would be happy if he returned to his homeland.
And I for one wouldn’t blame him, if that’s what he wants to do.
Manuel Lanzini made only two Premier League starts for West Ham this season. That’s nowhere near enough football for a player with his undoubted quality.
If Manu decides to stay at West Ham this summer, then great. However, if he chooses to leave, I will wish him all the best, as I’m sure every other Hammers fan will do.
