Moyes has earnt the right to decide West Ham future
West Ham manager David Moyes has earnt the right to decide the manner of his departure from the club.
As has been reported in the pages below, Moyes has yet to confirm his intentions for next season. The Hammers gaffer has one more year left on his contract, but could decide to leave on a high.
Personally, I think the Conference League victory has afforded him the leeway to leave under his terms. During two spells at the club, Moyes has had his ups and downs, but as the saying goes. . . it’s not how you start, it’s how you finish that counts.
Were he to leave before the end of next season, he would do so with his head held high. Moyes may choose to leave West Ham early but he is also well within his rights to see out his contract. He’s earnt that much at least.
The Hammers are in need of a mini restructure and the procurement of a football director is immanent. Any such appointment would be Moyes direct superior, and I can understand that causing an issue.
Tricky decision
Having appointed Rob Newman as head of recruitment, Moyes would understandably find it difficult to have his role diluted.
Having said all of that, I also have sympathy with the clubs position. The success of our recent signings has been hit and miss at best so it’s probably prudent to change. I can also understand the need to wait before offering Moyes terms on a new long-term contract at the club.
It’s a tricky situation where both parties are probably weighing up what’s best for themselves. David Moyes stock is currently very high, and he’d be a manager in high demand.
I would not be surprised if he remained and had a crack at winning the Europa trophy. However if he decided to leave and manage boyhood club Celtic in the Champions League I’d can’t say I’d blame him.
