West Ham star Marshall gets call
West Ham under 18 star Callum Marshall has received his first call-up to the senior Northern Ireland international side.
The striker has enjoyed a phenomenal campaign, scoring 23 goals in 24 games in all competitions as Kevin Keen’s young side claimed an U18 Premier League South division and FA Youth Cup double.
And anyone who saw him perform in the Youth Cup final will know that this is a star prospect who with Divin Mubama is not too far away from the first team
Such has been the impression he is created a call up to the Northern Ireland senior side is a testament to his ability and potential.
Manager Michael O’Neill aid: “The thing with Callum was he showed up brilliantly in the training camps. Young Callum has been in the Under-21 camp, he has been with the senior squad [training camp] and he is now with the senior squad again so it was to reward players as well for being there when it is not an easy time to be there.”
Marshall and his team-mates will prepare for a double-header of UEFA Euro 2024 qualifying matches as Northern Ireland take on Denmark and Kazakhstan later this month.
The side will face the Danes at Parken Stadium in Copenhagen on Friday 16 June before welcoming Kazakhstan to Windsor Park, Belfast, on Monday 19 June. Both matches are set for a 7.45pm BST kick-off.
Marshall has previously represented Northern Ireland U19s, making his debut at that age group in June 2022, and has scored six goals in seven appearances for the side.
This lad is a real prospect both for club and country and we should all be keeping a very keen eye on these two internationals as the academy starts to blossom again at the club.
All the best Callum.
