Everton under pressure to sell star midfielder Amadou Onana, as financial problems threaten Sean Dyche’s planned rebuild
- Everton are in special measures with the Premier League after heavy losses
- They need another major sale after losing Anthony Gordon to Newcastle
- Amadou Onana is the only outfield player likely to bring in a significant fee
Everton are under pressure to sell star asset Amadou Onana this summer in a major blow to Sean Dyche’s proposed rebuild at Goodison.
Dyche insisted ‘there is loads to change here and a lot of work to be done’ after Everton escaped relegation on the final day of the season against Bournemouth – but financial problems could hit his summer spending plans.
Everton are in special measures with the Premier League after losses exceeding £370million over three years and need another major sale in addition to Anthony Gordon’s £45million departure to Newcastle in January.
Onana, who was signed from Lille last summer for £34million, is the only outfield asset who could bring in a significant fee with the 21-year-old midfielder having huge potential.
Everton have to discuss all major financial transactions with the Premier League while an investigation for alleged breaches of Premier League FFP is looked into by an independent commission.
The club, who have been in the top flight of English football since 1954, hope to move into a new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock for the 2024/25 season.
