However, the East Midlands outfit could demand as much as £50 million for the 22-year-old, after the Hammers’ Premier League rivals Brentford submitted a £30 million offer for him.
Hammers boss David Moyes desperately needs to bolster his attacking ranks at the London Stadium his summer.
And Johnson would be a seriously exciting addition for the East London outfit…
West Ham want to sign Nottingham Forest ace Brennan Johnson but he’ll cost £50 million
The Athletic claim that the Hammers are one of three clubs in the race to sign the 22-year-old Forest star, alongside Brentford and Aston Villa.
I have to say, I would absolutely love Johnson at the London Stadium.
I have no problem with Forest demanding £50 million for the attacking midfielder – it’s their prerogative to do so. However, I just can’t see West Ham paying that kind of money for him. Perhaps a fee closer to £40 million would be more reasonable for the Hammers.
Johnson is an incredibly exciting young talent. He is a number 10 by trade but he can also play on either wing. He was recently described as an exceptional talent by former Nottingham Forest boss Chris Hughton (FLW).
The attacking midfielder was in superb form for Forest last season with 16 goals and nine assists to his name in 46 Championship games (Transfermarkt).
Johnson bagged 10 goals and three assists in 44 games in all competition for Forest this season (Transfermarkt).
The Forest ace can play anywhere along the front-line, has impressive pace and outstanding technical ability.
Fingers crossed that West Ham sign Brennan Johnson, but unfortunately I just can’t see it happening unless Nottingham Forest are prepared to lower their demands for the 22-year-old
