Brighton snub good news for West Ham
West Ham’s pursuit of Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher was given a boost following a Brighton snub of the player. It is understood the West London club had attempted top use Gallagher as part exchange in their attempted transfer of Moises Caicedo.
Fabrizio Romano tweeted an update on Gallagher’s situation, explaining that the England international is not currently part of Chelsea’s talks. The Seagulls are believed to be focusing on other priorities but who that might be wasn’t specified.
Romano said: “Understand Conor Gallagher is currently not involved in negotiations for Moisés Caicedo deal. Brighton have another priority target for midfield. West Ham and Newcastle are showing interest in Gallagher — but Newcastle and Tottenham have James Maddison as priority target.”
This can only be good news for West Ham who covet Gallagher. Chelsea are expected to formally declare their interest in Declan Rice soon. It is widely believed that Gallagher could be used as a potential part exchange player in any deal.
Gallagher has struggled for playing time at Stamford Bridge but previously looked hugely impressive on loan at Crystal Palace. A move to the London Stadium could also be a good move for the player who is looking to build on his England caps.
As a result a move to West Ham could be alluring for the midfielder, although where he fits in is another matter. Gallagher scored a brace against the Hammers whilst representing Crystal Palace but he was deployed as an attacking midfielder.
Lucas Paqueta made that position his own towards the end of the season and won’t be shifted easily. Perhaps manager David Moyes could be tempted to move the Brazilian back into the number eight position where he plays for his national team?
