West Ham want to sign Atletico Madrid midfield powerhouse Geoffrey Kondogbia claims a Spanish outlet’s journalist.
It’s official, the summer transfer window rumour mill is now whirring away at full speed for West Ham.
It was reported last week that ‘work was going on behind the scenes’ after West Ham identified a host of targets as potential replacements for Declan Rice.
As his move away – most likely to Arsenal – edges ever closer, the Hammers are being linked with a plethora of midfield stars.
Yunus Musah, Joao Palhinha, James Ward-Prowse and Edson Alvarez are just some of the names being mentioned as possible West Ham signings this summer.
Now there is another name in the frame it seems.
West Ham want to sign Atletico Madrid midfield powerhouse Geoffrey Kondogbia claims Spanish outlet’s journalist
Because West Ham want to sign Atletico Madrid midfield powerhouse Geoffrey Kondogbia claims a Spanish outlet’s journalist.
We reported last year that David Moyes explored the possibility of signing 6ft 2in central midfielder Kondogbia from Atletico.
In the end the move did not materialise and the now 30-year-old remained in Spain.
It seems Moyes remains interested in the possibility of bringing the former Valencia star to the London Stadium, though.
That’s according to transfer reporter Matteo Moretto who works for a Madrid-based sports outlet.
‘Whoever puts the money on the table first takes the player’
Moretto claims West Ham are battling Lyon for the powerful midfielder. And he says whoever meets the asking price first will get the player.
“West Ham together with Olympique de Lyon want to sign Geoffrey Kondogbia,” Moretto claims.
“Whoever puts the money on the table first will take it.”
West Ham to do battle with Lyon – again
Kondogbia struggled for game time last season and suffered with injuries, making just 14 starts for Atletico in all competitions.
On paper the ex Inter Milan, Monaco and Sevilla star has all the ingredients needed to be a hit for West Ham in the Premier League.
But his age – he turns 31 next season – does not suggest long term succession planning from Moyes.
If he was signed in addition to a younger midfielder then it could be a shrewd signing for the Hammers.
Kondogbia is a former France international who switched allegiance to Central African Republic in 2018.
