A reporter close to the West Ham board has bitten back at transfer reporter Fabrizio Romano over his new arrival claims.
West Ham officially announced the arrival of new technical director Tim Steidten at the weekend.
The appointment has been on the cards for some time having been reported by Fabrizio Romano all the way back on June 14th.
And it had given rise to plenty of speculation over David Moyes’ future at West Ham given his insistence on having final say on all transfers.
The Hammers moved to clarify role of Steidten after those Moyes reports.
Romano had claimed in the middle of last month that West Ham had beaten the likes of Spurs to the capture of Steidten after his shock departure from Bayer Leverkusen back in March.
A German in London via an Italian
West Ham had been linked with a host of names for the newly created role between board room and first team.
But Romano’s early announcement of Steidten’s arrival has been something of a spiky subject among those in the know at West Ham.
After the Italian transfer reporter revealed West Ham were set to appoint the German, it was claimed elsewhere that the Hammers appointment was not in fact a done deal. Romano was even called a “fraud” by some supporters on social media.
So when Steidten was officially unveiled at the weekend, Romano could not resist making a point to those who doubted his original claim.

That only served to spark a response from West Ham ITK Sean Whetstone.
The reporter close to the West Ham board bit back at Romano over his new arrival claims.
“Official, confirmed. Tim Steiden has been appointed as new West Ham technical director as first revealed on June 14,” Romano said on Twitter.
“Despite denials, it’s all done.”
‘Always jumping the gun’
To which Whetstone, who has close links to vice-chair Karren Brady, responded by telling Romano he had jumped the gun.
“Always jumping the gun!” Whetstone said.
“On the 14th he was the front running candidate on a shortlist but the deal was certainly not done, he only signed a contract this week.”
In a statement West Ham said they were impressed by Steidten’s instant success with his data-led approach to scouting at previous club Bayer Leverkusen.
And they will clearly be hoping that is the case at the London Stadium.
